The Life in the UK Test is a 24-question, computer-based multiple-choice exam. It checks your knowledge of British history, culture, government and everyday life and is required for most people applying for Indefinite Leave to Remain or British citizenship.
You sit the test at an approved test centre. You have 45 minutes to answer all 24 questions and must score at least 75% (18 correct answers) to pass. The questions are based on the official handbook, Life in the United Kingdom: A Guide for New Residents.
You usually need to pass the Life in the UK Test if you are applying for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) or to become a British citizen through naturalisation.
Some people are exempt – for example, those under 18 or over 65, or those with certain long-term physical or mental health conditions, supported by medical evidence. Always check the latest official guidance if you are unsure.
Understanding the format makes the test less stressful and helps you focus on what really matters when you practise.
Passing first time becomes significantly easier when you follow a structured plan and use realistic, timed Premium mocks. Free practice helps you learn the basics — Premium prepares you for the real exam.
Students who complete at least five Premium mocks and reach an 85%+ readiness score have a significantly higher first‑time pass rate.
